Digital Books

Mt. Pleasant Library, in cooperation with the Utah State Library, now offers more digital audio book services. With the addition of OverDrive, you now have more options available to listen to digital audio books on your PC, CD player, portable audio device, or smartphone (including iPod).

Overdrive can be found at www.pioneer.utah.gov

What you will need:

*A valid Mt. Pleasant Library card

*Access code   s3p84647

*Internet access

*Personal home or laptop computer with:

s  Microsoft Windows Operating System

s  OverDrive media Console

s  Windows Media Player (version 9 or higher)

*Free software for the computer or device on which you wish to use the materials available on the OverDrive website.

*Some titles are available for Mac users.

Downloading and installing free software:

First, you need to download and install the free software that allows you to enjoy the types of materials you are interested in.

*To check out Adobe eBooks, you need Adobe Digital Editions.

*To check out Mobipocket eBooks, you need Mobipocket Reader.

*To check out OverDrive titles, you need OverDrive Media Console.

Click on the download digital media Guided Tour box to get started. Follow the online instructions.

Checking out a digital audio book:

After you have found a digital audio book you want to check out:

*Click on “Add to cart”

*Click on “Continue Browsing” or “Proceed to Checkout”

*To checkout, click on the “Libraries H – N box, then find Mount Pleasant Public Library and click on it.

*Enter the access code and you library card number. (Do not include the “P” and space before your library card number. The access code and library card number should be one long number.)

*Pick the “lending period” that you want. 7, 14, or 21 days are available.

*Click “Confirm” if the selection is correct.

*A “Download” screen will inform you that appropriate audio book software must be installed on your PC. If you have not previously downloaded the OverDrive Media Console, do so now. If the OverDrive Media Console software is already installed, click on the “Download” button after checking out the title.

*OverDrive Media Console will open and prompt you for a download location for your audio files.

*Click “OK” to save the file to the default location or specify another folder.

*Click “OK” again.

*An audio book is typically divided into parts. Select the part you want to download at this time and then click “OK.” The downloading process will start and its progress will be displayed. The download may take several minutes or longer, depending on the speed of your connection.

*To play your audio book, open OverDrive Media Console. High-light the title and click the “Play” button.

Note:   OverDrive will save the location of your audio book when you close the program.

OverDrive audio books can be checked out for up to 3 weeks. You may check out up to five audio books at one time.

Putting a digital audio book on hold:

If the digital audio book you wanted to check out is not currently available:

*You may want to place a “hold” on the digital audio book, click on “place a hold” next to the item, instead of “add to cart.”

*A “My Holds” screen will appear and will allow you to enter your email address, which will be used to notify you when the item is available.

*Click the “Submit” button if all the information is correct.

*When your requested audio book becomes available, it will be held for you for 3 days from the time the notifying email is sent.

Returning an audio book:

Your digital audio book will be returned automatically on the item’s due date. No late fees!

The OverDrive service may only be used from your home. You may not download audio books from the library computers.
